For me, 2022 was wonderful. I was able to spend more time with the people I love, take a few trips across state lines, and see a ton of local shows. I won’t do a re-cap style post here (that’s what the archive is for), but 2022 got me re-energized, and 2023 will be another productive year filled with friendship, music, and books. I hope each of you reading this also had a great year and are looking forward to the next.
Since there’s no re-cap this year, I thought an absolute classic™ Diptych post may be in order, featuring a double feature of double features, a live recorded performance, and a handful of photos from the end of one year to the beginning of another.
First up, I’ve got a double feature of sailing tapes, found at the AmVets in Alcoa, TN. I don’t often come across yachting tapes, as I’m in a landlocked state so I had to pick them up. I found the 1999 Rolex International Year in Sailing video to be really interesting and it had a ton of beautiful scenery.
For the second half of the double feature of double features, I’ve got two dancing instructional tapes for y’all —starting with some basic country line dancing, and then moving onto the Argentine tango.
After that, stay tuned for a live recording of Reclaimed Media (acid, distorted deep house, if the Mortal Kombat (1995) soundtrack was made out of repressed anger) from the New Year’s show at The Tiger’s Den in Knoxville, Tennessee, as well as a bunch of photos from all the other bands that played that night (including me!).
I hope everyone reading this had a wonderful holiday season and is ready to get back at it in 2023. Let’s get right into the tapes!
