HOT AND FRESH MUSIC // THE LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON
Due to high demand, I have made the decision to continue posting as many photos as I possibly can for the rest of my life.
We are in the throes of the busiest time of year for me, but that has never stopped me from going out to see my favorite locals. We are experiencing what I can only describe as the greatest time to ever be tapped in to the local music scene in Knoxville, Tennessee and East Tennessee as a whole.
We have jazz. We have every (good) form of heavy music. We have several flavors of punk. Indie rock is here. Gay country music. (Probably) anti-gay country music. The hip-hop scene is healing. I went to see a tropical house music DJ one afternoon a few weeks ago at my friend’s apartment complex pool and there were over a hundred people there at 2pm. Posthumous Rock and Roll. Ambient music lives here. Every Monday night there’s free improvisational music that transcends genres. I saw numetal. I saw THE emo cover band. I saw whatever Tinca Tinca is. It rocked. Everytime.
Live music is thriving in a way that I have never experienced. I thought we had it good before (and we did, we had it so good), but I am so thankful to be here in East Tennessee where nearly every night of the week, I can go see a show or listen to a good DJ and know that I’ll run into my friends while I’m out.
There are bands I miss because I could never get enough of them and then there are bands I miss because I didn’t set aside time to see them enough when they were active, and I don’t want to make that mistake again.
I don’t think anything could ever slow down what is happening in East Tennessee right now, but just in case I think I’ll go see some bands this weekend :)
