Line Dancin', Cowboys, and Big Magical Boats
this week, I read so much about Phillip Morris and I retained none of that information
These past two months have held many scores for the media backlog. From shelves of tapes at thrift stores, to gifts from friends, lately I’ve collected enough tapes that my shelf is overflowing with content to digitize for this blog. That also means I’ve collected a ton of great movies recently as well! As the next year rolls around, I will continue to bring you all of the best (and dustiest) tapes for your viewing pleasure, but if you see something in this photo that looks interesting to you, please let me know!
This week, I don’t have any particular theme for the tapes I chose. I pulled three that looked interesting to me, and thankfully all three were something incredibly special. So let’s get right into it!
Marlboro Unlimited
1994 | Runtime: 2 Minutes, 30 Seconds
As whimsical as this advertisement project is made out to be, unfortunately this was a failed venture by Phillip Morris Inc.. Touted as a “Cruise Ship on Rails”, according to this article by Theme Trains, by the summer of 1997 the 20+ unfinished train cars were dismantled and this low-speed trip of unbelievable luxury never took it’s maiden voyage across the high plains of America.
I often wonder how different daily life in America would look if trains had remained popular into the 21st century, but in hindsight, I believe it’s very easy to see why this didn’t quite work out. Check the article above for a ton of info about this project if you’re interested!
Disney Cruise Line Vacation Information Tape 2002
2002 | Runtime: 15 Minutes

Having been on a Disney Cruise myself, I can confirm that it is every bit as magical as this advertisement makes it out to be (if not more).
Learn Country Line Dancin' Hot New Dances Including Hip Hop
1992 | Runtime: 28 Minutes
Professional instructor Judi McDonald demonstrates each step in an easy to follow style, and then runs through the complete dance to music.
I can safely say there is very little “Hip-Hop” in this line dancin’ tape, but it does look like it was filmed in the backroom of an old Sagebrush Steakhouse which is pretty cool.
Well, that’s it for this week! I hope you enjoyed the tapes. If you’re looking for more, please check out my page on Archive.org for the full list of digitized media. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message right here or drop a comment below. If you haven’t already, why not check out some of my previous work like this set of photographs from a sprawling multi-story castle located in Greenback Tennessee built by one man or any of my other previous posts here. Thanks so much for checking out this week’s edition of Diptych!
See you soon!
