there's a plastic flange at the back of the lens that needs to be sawed off. I unscrewed the back mount on the lens and used a pair of plyers and a towel to hold it while i used a hacksaw to remove that plastic piece. it looks janky but it does function just fine.
one thing that is important after this mod is to never shoot it lower than 15mm. anything less than that, the mirror will hit the back element of the lens. the 5d already has issues with mirror adhesion (i've fixed mine, but it's fallen off before), so any kind of interference would certainly cause the mirror to become loose.
on a newer ff canon camera with live view, it's absolutely possible to use it at 10mm, since the camera locks the mirror up when switched to lv. i do this all the time on my 6D MKI, which gives a circular fisheye kind of look since it doesn't cover the full sensor at it's widest setting.
also theres some ebay listings for ef-s to ef conversion mounts for the 10-18. i don't own one so i can't speak for them, but i have seen them in some youtube videos that looked pretty good!

Youre using the 10-18mm EF-S right? How are you getting that to work on the Full Frame 5D?
